At school, mathematics is mostly about arithmetic and algebra: adding fractions, solving equations and calculating percentages. These topics are important to understand the formal language that underlies mathematics, but they can appear very dry and boring, with few applications in real life.

Experts, teachers, trainers and researchers in the field of science education are invited to submit papers for the 3rd edition of the New Perspectives in Science Education international conference which will take place in Florence (Italy) on 20 -21 March 2014.
The conference aims at promoting innovation and good practice in science education. The conference program will cover topics such as enhancing students' motivation, using new technologies, teaching methods, and more.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is 25 November, 2013. The abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee and the accepted authors will be notified by 16 December, 2013. A ISBN publication with all accepted papers will be produced. Oral, poster and virtual presentations will also be available. The 8th International Technology, Education and Development Conference (INTED2014) is a platform for international experts to discuss the latest developments in the technologies and methodologies of teaching and learning. We invite you to submit your abstracts and participate in the conference.
INTED2014 provides the ideal opportunity to present projects and experiences in the fields of learning and teaching methodologies, educational innovations, e-learning and new technologies applied to education, technology and development.
There will be two types of presentations:
- In person: oral and poster presentations.
- Virtually: for those who cannot attend in person.
The conference will produce two ISBN publications. All of the accepted contributions will be included in the IATED Digital Library of innovative education and techology projects. The conference proceedings will be included in Google Scholar and sent for review to be included in the ISI Conference Proceedings Citation Index. The deadline to submit an abstract is 5 December, 2013.
The workshop “Science Education and Guidance in Schools: The way forward” aims to promote discussion at international level on science learning and teaching methodologies, in schools but also on the use of ICT for scientific learning in the area of environmental sciences, life sciences and applied robotics.
The workshop, which will take place in Florence (Italy) on October 21-22, 2013 is also aimed to facilitate networking and collaborative round tables in order to gather representatives interested in exploiting international opportunities of funding (i.e. EU projects calls).
